Deb and I never imagined that we would be living in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland when we were both teaching back in the south east of England, (although we are Welsh!). However, after our initial visit to the Highlands back in 2018, like every other visitor, we were smitten with the beauty and the serenity of the area and purchasing Polmaily House and curtailing our teaching careers were both very easy decisions indeed.

With the support of our own children, Llewellyn and Bronwen, and the financial support of Deb’s parents, Helen and Graham (who now live on site with us), it was not long before everything fell into place and the lorry was loaded, the dogs were in the back of the car and our new life in Scotland had begun. Deb and I have worked together for much of our careers, so running a hospitality venue together was relatively straightforward.

We love what the Highlands have to offer – especially the wildlife. It is not every day that you see a wild cat strolling across your garden, a red squirrel trotting across the swimming pool roof and a pair of red kites circling majestically overhead. Amazing!

We very much enjoy welcoming visitors to Polmaily House and are very proud of how we have continued to improve this beautiful 300 year old former home of the Grant clan. We still have lots more plans for further expansion and development in place, we very much look forward to what the future has in store here in beautiful, bonny Scotland.

Should you wish to visit the house for either a prospective wedding or for a family / friends get together, we would love to show you around and might even have some freshly homemade shortbread in the biscuit tin!

About Polmaily House

Polmaily is named after one of the saints of the Great Glen, St. Mailie, with Polmaily literally meaning, ‘Mailie’s Pool’. After studying ancient maps, we have recently (May, 2020) located a natural spring in the grounds and it has been suggested that this is the ‘pool’, after which the house is named!
